Milan, IT · Full-time · €45,000 – €65,000

About this role

AECOM is currently seeking a Senior Hydrogeologist to join the team of hydrogeologists and environmental engineers. The role focuses on hydrogeological assessments, groundwater remediation strategy implementation, remediation design, and monitoring at large contaminated industrial sites, plus groundwater engineering at new development sites.

The position requires applying technical knowledge of site investigation, remediation, and contaminated site regulations to resolve complex environmental problems. Daily work includes designing and supervising hydrogeological investigations such as well installations, groundwater surveys, sampling, and aquifer testing across project locations.

You will develop hydrogeological conceptual models and 3D geological models using digital tools and geostatistical software. Numerical groundwater models will be built with MODFLOW, FEFLOW, and similar packages while collaborating with environmental scientists and risk assessors on remediation planning.

The role involves preparing proposals, managing project budgets and schedules, providing hydrogeological input to environmental assessments, mentoring junior staff, and liaising with clients and regulators. National travel supports site visits and project needs in a multidisciplinary environment.

Requirements

  • +5 years of related experience, preferably within a multinational company
  • Fluency in Italian and English
  • Some fieldwork experience
  • Motivation, initiative, and organizational skills to work effectively in a busy multi-disciplinary environment
  • Ability to work under pressure and flexibility to promptly respond to changing project demands
  • Ability to produce and understand written reports without consistent revision and maintain good records of site-based activities
  • Reasonable flexibility and willingness to travel nationally to conduct site visits
  • Licensed to drive a vehicle in ITA (essential)

  • Develop numerical groundwater models using MODFLOW, FEFLOW, and other software packages.
  • Work closely with environmental scientists and risk assessors on remediation plan procedures.
  • Prepare proposals and workplans while managing project budgets, schedules, health and safety, and staffing.
  • Provide hydrogeological input to environmental assessments of proposed commercial and industrial developments.
