About this role

The Senior Petroleum Geologist leads prospect generation and field evaluation by integrating geologic, petrophysical, and geophysical data to define drillable opportunities and optimize development plans. Builds basin and play models, prepares resource and reserve estimates under accepted frameworks. Produces clear maps, cross sections, and static reservoir models to guide well placement and completion strategy.

Partners with reservoir, drilling, and production teams to align subsurface interpretations with economics, schedules, and risk mitigation. Prepares high quality technical reports and executive briefs for Tribal leadership, government partners, and industry stakeholders. Supports negotiations with data driven exhibits and upholds rigorous QA and safety practices.

Serves as a leadership position within the Petroleum Geologist Labor Category, formulating strategic plans for oil, gas, and mineral development on Indian lands. Performs supervisory responsibilities, overseeing day-to-day technical work and complex geologic interpretation including structural, isopach, and production maps. Travels frequently to Indian Reservations across the U.S. and Alaska for fieldwork and collaboration.

Leads marketing programs to promote mineral potential through forums and technical discussions. Evaluates proposals, grants, and agreements for technical feasibility and Tribal goals. Mentors junior staff while integrating sparse data from Rocky Mountain and Mid-Continent provinces to generate leads.

Requirements

  • Expert petroleum geology across conventional and unconventional systems with deep understanding of hydrocarbon generation, migration, trapping, and classification
  • Proficient in resource and reserve estimation frameworks and methods
  • Integrates geologic, petrophysical, and geophysical evidence to mature prospects in data-sparse settings
  • Applies play-based risking, volumetrics, and scenario testing to assess technical, operational, and financial feasibility
  • Extensive experience building and interpreting basin and play models, maps, cross sections, and static reservoir models
  • Experience evaluating proposals and grants in Rocky Mountain and Mid-Continent provinces
  • Skilled in producing technical reports, geologic displays, and digital presentations for stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Leads prospect generation and field evaluation by integrating geologic, petrophysical, and geophysical data
  • Formulates and recommends strategic plans for development of oil, gas, and mineral deposits on Indian lands
  • Performs and oversees complex geologic interpretation and mapping, including structural maps, isopach maps, cross-sections, and production maps
  • Leads development of marketing and promotional programs to inform industry of mineral potential on Indian lands
  • Travels frequently to Indian Reservations across the continental U.S. and Alaska to conduct fieldwork and collaborate with Tribal leaders
  • Evaluates oil and gas proposals and agreements for technical feasibility and relevance to Tribal royalty owner goals
  • Integrates complex geological and geophysical data from diverse sources to generate conventional and unconventional oil and gas leads
  • Supports maintenance and population of energy and mineral resource databases with field data and lab analyses
