About this role
Cenovus seeks a Senior Geologist for its Conventional Heavy Oil team in the Calgary office. Reporting to the Alberta Geoscience Manager, the role optimizes reservoir development plans to align with business objectives. It supports execution of development plans and long-term strategy in a multi-disciplinary setting.
Daily work includes conducting geological evaluations using core data, well logs, drilling, and production information. This identifies and matures new drilling prospects while generating technical insights for asset strategies. Recommendations support project execution plans effectively.
Collaboration spans geoscience, reservoir engineering, drilling, and production teams. The geologist prepares technical documentation, milestone reviews, and knowledge-sharing presentations for leadership approval. Land evaluations cover Crown, freehold, and industry-held opportunities.
Contributions extend to Long Range Planning, reserves evaluations, and annual budgeting. Monitoring industry activity integrates new technologies into development programs while championing continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- Legally authorized to work in Canada
- B.Sc. degree or higher in Geology with 8+ years of related oil and gas industry experience
- Registered member of APEGA or another Provincial Professional Geoscience Organization
- Proficiency with geoscience software including Geographix, Accumap, GeoScout, and Petrel
- Strong experience in project management, asset development, and technical evaluations
- Solid understanding of geology, sequence stratigraphy, and clastic depositional systems
Responsibilities
- Conduct geological evaluations using core data, well logs, drilling, and production information to identify and mature new drilling prospects.
- Generate technical insights and recommendations to support asset development strategies and project execution plans.
- Prepare and present technical recommendations to leadership through formal review and approval processes.
- Evaluate Crown, freehold, and industry-held land opportunities for acquisition, retention, or divestiture.
- Monitor industry activity and academic advancements to integrate new technologies and learnings into development programs.
- Contribute to Long Range Planning (LRP), reserves evaluations, and annual budgeting activities.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives to optimize workflows, enhance project economics, and improve operational consistency.
