About this role
This senior-level position is for an accomplished Exploration Geologist with a proven track record in mineral exploration and resource development. The Principal Exploration Geologist provides technical leadership and strategic direction for exploration programs, leveraging advanced geoscience techniques to identify new mineral deposits and optimize resource value.
Oversee the entire project lifecycle from feasibility studies to closure, driving business growth by identifying opportunities and shaping strategic initiatives. Design and supervise exploration programs including geological mapping, geochemical sampling, drilling campaigns, remote sensing, and advanced data analytics. Manage budgets, timelines, and resource allocation to ensure efficient project delivery.
Lead a culture of technical excellence by mentoring junior geoscientists and fostering innovation. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate geological, geophysical, and geotechnical data for optimal exploration targeting and risk mitigation. Engage with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to ensure project alignment and successful delivery.
Drive continuous improvement in exploration workflows, reporting, and knowledge sharing across regional and global teams. Represent the company’s expertise in exploration geology through authoritative input to technical proposals, client presentations, and bid defenses. This role is central to supporting Fugro’s strategic vision in mining and delivering innovative solutions for major clients.
Requirements
- Advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in Geology or related field.
- Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in mineral exploration, with at least 5 years in a senior or principal consulting role.
- Experience in greenfield and brownfield exploration, especially in VMS and orogenic gold deposits.
- High proficiency in geological modeling and GIS software such as Leapfrog, Surpac, Micromine, or ArcGIS.
- Deep expertise in exploration program design, resource estimation, and geoscience data integration.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver innovative solutions and drive business growth.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing conditions in remote field environments.

- Develop and implement resource estimation methodologies in compliance with JORC/NI 43-101 and ESG best practices.
- Lead advanced exploration and structural geology studies including fault system analysis and 3D geological modeling.
