About this role

Kleinfelder's Geotechnical team is seeking an Entry-Level Geotechnical Engineer or Engineering Geologist to join our Mechanicsburg, PA office. This role supports the planning, engineering, and construction of complex projects, with specialists who are leading experts in their fields.

You will support geotechnical field work including soil and rock boring logging, test pit sampling, and infiltration testing, as well as assign appropriate laboratory testing. You will also oversee subcontractors and vendors performing drilling, laboratory analytical services, and excavation activities.

Working with design teams to incorporate geotechnical aspects into site designs, you will review and interpret data, prepare field reports, technical reports, and geologic analyses. The role requires travel overnight up to 50 percent of the time for drilling and construction observation assignments in all weather conditions, with physical demands including lifting up to 50 pounds.

Requirements

  • BS in Geotechnical/Civil Engineering, Geology, or a Related Discipline
  • EIT or GIT is preferred (or the ability to obtain within 6 months)
  • Ability to travel overnight (up to 50 percent of time) for drilling and construction observation assignments
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions and lift 50 pounds
  • Positive work attitude and ability to work safely and efficiently when managing multiple tasks
  • Ability to work independently or with a team in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Responsibilities

  • Support geotechnical field work and analysis including soil and rock boring logging, test pit sampling, and infiltration testing
  • Assign the appropriate laboratory testing for soil and rock samples
  • Oversee subcontractors and vendors performing drilling, laboratory analytical services, maintenance, and excavation activities
  • Review and interpret data and analytical laboratory results
  • Prepare field reports, internal/external correspondence, technical reports, and geologic analyses
  • Perform associated engineering analyses under the guidance of a professional engineer
  • Work with design teams to incorporate geotechnical aspects into site designs
  • Monitor and troubleshoot geotechnical issues during construction earthwork and foundation construction
