Zacatecas, MX · Full-time · MXN 1,200,000 – MXN 1,800,000

About this role

Penasquito needs a senior structural geologist to undertake local structural geological model development critical for geotechnical slope design, hydrogeological analyses, and coordination with external structural geological modeling work. The key result is to ensure effective geological mapping, interpretation, and integration into pit design and slope stability. This onsite role at the Empleados Peñasquito Mine Site drives geological accuracy in mining operations.

Daily responsibilities include supervising geological mapping and analysis of open pit structures to identify key features and hazards. Interpret geological data such as structural measurements, lithology, and mineralogy to understand controls on ore deposition and pit slope stability. Provide input into drilling programs and develop a fault registry characterizing major site structures.

Collaborate closely with mine planning, engineering teams, and geotechnical engineers to integrate geological considerations into pit design and operational plans. Work with internal technical teams, external reviews, and regional groups on structural assessments and mitigation measures. Monitor data trends impacting mine design for proactive adjustments.

Mentor junior geologists on mapping techniques and interpretation methods while auditing and optimizing technical procedures. Focus on continuous improvement in structural geology practices. Demonstrate leadership in safety, environmental stewardship, and cross-functional teamwork.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in geological modeling software (e.g., Leapfrog, MineSight, or similar)
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex geological data
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally with diverse teams
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and environmental stewardship in mining operations
  • Demonstrated team leadership and project management experience
  • English competency (both written and oral) is essential
  • Strong knowledge of structural geology principles and their application to slope stability
  • Experience with geological mapping techniques, structural interpretation and software applications

Responsibilities

  • Supervise geological mapping and analysis of open pit structures to identify key geological features and potential hazards
  • Interpret geological data, including structural measurements, lithology, and mineralogy, to understand geological controls on ore deposition and pit slope stability
  • Collaborate with mine planning and engineering teams to integrate geological considerations into pit design and operational plans
  • Provide input into drilling programs to collect geological data for geomechanical and pit design purposes
  • Develop a fault registry to characterize each major structure encountered at site
  • Develop local structural geological model pertinent to slope design and hydrogeological analysis
  • Coordinate external structural geological modeling work
  • Work with geotechnical engineers to perform geotechnical assessments of pit walls and recommend mitigation measures

Benefits

  • Employee referral amount in Mexican Peso
