About this role
This position primarily handles geological fieldwork, providing technical direction for subsurface investigations supporting engineering site assessments, environmental studies, and foundation remediations. It ensures successful execution of field programs in geosciences and earth science contexts. The role focuses on exploration and drilling services within Southern Company's operations.
Daily tasks include field oversight for monitoring well installations, foundation investigations, and underground utility projects. Perform soil logging per ASTM D2488 guidelines and rock logging, then prepare professional logs for soil, rock, and well construction data. Manage drilling contractors per company procedures while interfacing with customers and Drilling Services leaders.
Based in a home office in Vincent, AL, the role involves 95-100% travel Monday-Thursday across Southern Company's system, with most Fridays and weekends off. Hybrid or remote work is possible for residents of Alabama, Mississippi, or Georgia. Typical schedule is four 10-hour days per week, extendable as needed.

Requirements
- B.S. Degree in Geology / Geological Engineering or related discipline
- 5+ years working directly in a geological, environmental, engineering, construction, or other related field
- Experience in executing field investigations utilizing various drilling methods and resources
- Experience with soil and rock logging, monitoring well construction, groundwater monitoring, and field data reporting
- Knowledge of environmental sampling and testing methods
- General knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements
- Working knowledge of various Boring Log Programs (e.g. gINT, BoreDM, TabLogs)
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Responsibilities
