Portage, Inc., acquired by North Wind Group, seeks an Environmental Geologist to support Department of Energy projects in Ventura County, California. The role focuses on environmental investigations, remediation, site surveillance, maintenance, and facility support. Candidates need experience in soil, groundwater, air sampling techniques, drilling oversight, and remedial actions.

Daily tasks include collecting groundwater, soil, and air monitoring data, overseeing drilling for investigative projects, and providing technical oversight to onsite subcontractors. Perform weekly surveillance, maintenance, and inspections of DOE-owned monitoring wells and infrastructure. Calibrate instrumentation and operate groundwater extraction/treatment systems to ensure safe access.

Serve as onsite safety lead for the project team and subcontractors, implementing health and safety in all duties while recognizing and mitigating hazards. Interface directly with client and stakeholder personnel for site tours, condition reports, orientations, and safety training. Maintain site conditions safe for all project stakeholders and visitors.

Manage field geological aspects, project record keeping like daily reports, waste logs, and manifests. Analyze environmental data for completeness, prepare field summaries, data tables, and technical reports. Organize and lead project teams, establish priorities, and assist in developing junior staff.

Requirements

  • Experience with variety of soil/groundwater/air sampling techniques
  • Drilling oversight experience for environmental investigations
  • Knowledge of environmental investigations and remedial actions
  • Ability to provide safe working environment and mitigate hazards
  • Proficiency in calibrating instrumentation for data collection
  • Skills in data analysis and technical reporting
  • Ability to obtain government clearance
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
