
About this role
Imerys is seeking a site-based Junior Geologist to join the Willsboro, NY team, supporting ore QA/QC, active drilling campaigns, and short-term mine planning. This role is critical to environmental compliance and operational data support.
Daily responsibilities include in-pit grade control, laboratory QA/QC, and assisting senior technical staff with diamond drilling and blast hole sampling campaigns. The role also involves core logging, drillhole planning, and sample preparation.
The Junior Geologist reports to the Mine Manager and Geology Specialist, working closely with senior technical staff. The position offers broad exposure to both surface and underground operations, as the site transitions from surface to underground mining methods.
This role provides an opportunity to contribute to essential site systems and gain hands-on experience in a leading mineral solutions company with global reach. The candidate will assist in maintaining environmental compliance and data management critical to the operation.
Requirements
- BS degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related field.
- 0–3 years of technical experience in a junior geology role.
- Operations experience in mining is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of ore QA/QC and grade control principles.
- Ability to support diamond drilling and blast hole sampling campaigns.
- Familiarity with environmental monitoring and regulatory compliance.
- Proficiency in geological data management and reporting.
Responsibilities
- Provide in-pit grade control and laboratory QA/QC to ensure ore shipments meet quality standards.
- Support diamond drilling and blast hole sampling campaigns by assisting with core logging, contractor management, drillhole planning, database management, and sample preparation.
- Monitor and assist with environmental compliance activities, including regulatory reporting and collection/analysis of field data.
- Prepare routine reports, geological maps, and tables using analytical data to support resource modeling, mine design, and reconciliation.
- Conduct field activities including blast hole survey, collection of ore cutting from blast hole drilling, field documentation, and oversight of drilling subcontractors.
- Support the development of departmental budgets and track actual vs. budgetary goals; assist with site accounting processes such as requisitions, inventory adjustments, and goods receipts.
