About this role
Grubbs, Hoskyn, Barton & Wyatt, LLC, a Universal Engineering Sciences (UES) company, has an opening for a Field Geologist in the Geotechnical Department. The role provides technical work on various projects with practical training to supplement theoretical knowledge.
Daily tasks include locating, observing, and logging field borings, probes, and test pits from plan layouts. Participate in drilling and sampling using manual or power-operated hand augering equipment. Install, read, and interpret field instruments such as observation wells and inclinometers.
Perform observations of field activities for compliance with project objectives and prepare reports documenting activities. Provide liaison with subcontractors, suppliers, and client representatives for satisfactory field operations. Alert project leader or supervisor of difficulties, cost overruns, change in scope, or potential liability.
Conduct all work safely, following Geotechnology’s Life-Saving Rules, safety plans, programs, policies, and procedures. Participate in group safety meetings, job site tailgate safety meetings, and conduct periodic job site safety observations. Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Civil Engineering
- Strong work ethic and the ability to assess and react to project situations
- Good oral and written communication skills, including good technical writing capabilities
- Ability for accuracy and detail in performing technical observations
- Ability to effectively use computers
- Ability to use initiative and work independently within the limitations of experience
- Knowledge of various exploratory and laboratory techniques
Responsibilities
