About this role

At Haley & Aldrich, you'll tackle clients' most meaningful challenges in the built and natural environments, building stronger communities along the way. We are currently seeking a Staff Technician to perform field-related technical duties with minimum supervision, working outside the office 95% of the time.

Your day-to-day will involve monitoring geotechnical and environmental drilling, collecting soil and groundwater samples, and producing boring logs with soil and rock classifications. You'll also use various instrumentation, prepare detailed field reports, and coordinate with contractors on job sites.

You'll work with passionate colleagues driven by a commitment to technical excellence and continuous learning. The role requires travel to construction and industrial sites, where you'll work in all weather conditions while adhering to strict Health & Safety guidelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, or related field.
  • 2+ years of related work experience.
  • Strong written, verbal, and telephone communication skills, especially producing accurate and concise field notes.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to lift and transport up to 50 lbs of field equipment unassisted, bend, walk on uneven ground, and work on large construction/industrial sites.
  • Ability to work in elements (snow, rain, heat) while using personal-protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to H&S guidelines.
  • Willingness to work on sites with asbestos present and wear Level C PPE, including Tyvek suits and respirators.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor geotechnical and environmental drilling and test pits.
  • Produce boring logs with soil classifications, rock core classifications, and site geology conditions.
  • Collect geotechnical and environmental soil samples.
  • Use various geotechnical and environmental instrumentation and equipment.
  • Perform low flow groundwater sampling and field tests on soil and rock.
  • Prepare daily/weekly field reports with figures, photographs, and summary tables.
  • Coordinate scheduling with contractors and subcontractors and monitor field and lab testing activities.
  • Adhere to Site Specific Health and Safety Plans and participate in site safety briefings and audits.
