About this role

We are looking for a Numerical Scientist (Geophysical Imaging Technology) passionate about engaging disciplines to resolve complex problems for bp’s hydrocarbon and low carbon energy businesses. The Imaging team in bp’s Oil and Gas Technology organization supports Production and Operations by inventing ideas, building products, and providing expertise. Work closely with the Center of High-Performance Computing for on-prem facilities and computational scientists. Tackle cutting-edge challenges like inverse problems and seismic simulations.

Handle signal processing, develop stochastic algorithms, and estimate uncertainties while processing big data in static and streaming senses. Communicate complex information to business units and build future visions. Visualize and creatively present ideas using lots of computers.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computational Sciences, Statistics, Geophysics or other numerical disciplines
  • Demonstrated experience out of university (3+ years)
  • Practical hands-on experience developing code in Python, C, C++, CUDA, FORTRAN
  • Familiarity with code management systems such as Git
  • Experience with geophysical imaging, inverse problems, optimization theory, signal processing, statistics
  • Experience with ML/AI and data analytics a plus
