About this role
CGG, a global geoscience technology leader employing 4,000 worldwide, seeks an experienced Petroleum Geologist for its Geology team in Villahermosa, Mexico. The role involves working in an integrated team to deliver technically excellent regional to block-scale interpretation and prospectivity evaluation. Key deliverable includes a risked and ranked portfolio of new prospects.
Daily tasks encompass post-well analysis, cross section construction, Play Based Exploration concepts, Gross Depositional Environment maps, hydrocarbon plays identification, Common Risk Segment maps, and 2D/3D seismic interpretation in complex salt tectonic regimes. Perform detailed prospect definition, risking, and probabilistic volumetric calculations. Integrate geological observations with multiphysics, seismic processing, petrophysics, basin modelling, and reservoir engineering.
Join CGG's experienced Geology team blending E&P operating background and in-house specialists in geology, geochemistry, geophysics, and petrophysics. Collaborate alongside data science, quantitative seismic interpretation, satellite mapping, reservoir engineering, and economics experts for integrated studies. Role based in Villahermosa with potential visits to UK and US offices.
Coach and mentor peers and junior staff on geological tools and best-practice workflows for prospectivity assessment. Collaborate closely with clients throughout projects and present findings in reports and presentations. Provide training to clients in area of expertise.
Requirements
- Manage and load well logs and other geological data into projects
- Thorough understanding of downhole logs and petrophysical measurements with ability to liaise with petrophysical specialists
- Expert knowledge of Play Based Exploration concepts to identify new plays and prospects
- Solid proficiency in well cross section generation and mapping
- Experience with 2D and 3D seismic interpretation in highly complex salt tectonic regime
- Solid understanding of integrating geological observations with multiphysics, seismic processing, petrophysics, basin modelling, and reservoir engineering
Responsibilities
- Undertake, manage, and deliver technically excellent subsurface work in line with CGG standards and industry best practice
- Work collaboratively and support other disciplines to ensure timely delivery of data and interpretations
- Coach and mentor peers and junior staff on effective use of geological tools and best-practice workflows
- Collaborate closely with clients throughout the duration of projects
- Present findings in written reports and verbal presentations to clients
- Provide training to clients in discipline of expertise
- Perform post-well analysis, cross section construction, and GDE maps
- Conduct 2D/3D seismic interpretation, prospect definition, risking, and probabilistic volumetrics
