Fervo Energy

Golden, US · Full-time · $138,000 – $185,000

About this role

Fervo is working to build the most cost-effective, repeatable geothermal power plants in the world. The Exploration Geologist supports geological modeling workstream to achieve geothermal energy development goals. This role evaluates resource opportunities and executes exploration activities across Fervo’s growing project portfolio.

Responsibilities include working with geophysical and geological datasets to build three-dimensional conceptual models of geothermal reservoirs. Develop geothermal play concepts in new basins, acreage evaluation, prospect ranking, and Fervo’s exploration strategy. Support wellsite geology activities for exploration drilling programs.

Joining Fervo’s Subsurface organization means operating at the intersection of geology, engineering, and real-world execution. Data-driven decisions directly shape development outcomes with deep subsurface understanding and disciplined field execution. Regular in-office presence at Golden or Reno offices required with hybrid flexibility.

Travel periodically to field sites, mostly in western US, up to 25% during active drilling. Continuous learning across the full project lifecycle supports growth in geothermal development. Position plays a key role in identifying growth opportunities through greenfield and nearfield developments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology, geophysics, or related discipline
  • Geologist experience in the geothermal, mining, and/or oil & gas industries
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling software (Leapfrog, Petrel, EarthVision, or similar) and GIS software (ArcGIS, Global Mapper)
  • Driven self-starter & team player, willing to plan and execute with little oversight
  • Master’s degree in geology, geophysics, or related discipline (preferred)
  • Experience in data analytics, geostatistics, and uncertainty analysis (preferred)
  • Operations geology experience during active drilling campaigns (preferred)
  • Exposure to geomechanics, fracture characterization, or subsurface stress analysis (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Integrate geologic, geochemical, and geophysical datasets to build and update 3D geologic models across Fervo’s geothermal portfolio
  • Identify growth opportunities for Fervo’s development portfolio through greenfield and nearfield development opportunities and acquisitions
  • Develop petrophysical and geomechanical datasets and evaluate subsurface state of stress to inform wellfield and completions design
  • Assist with asset management, resource reserve estimates, and investment analysis/diligence
  • Perform offset well analysis to develop geologic prognoses, evaluate wellbore stability, and support well planning
  • Supervise mudlogging, wireline logging, sampling, and other wellsite geology activities
  • Travel periodically to field sites (mostly in western US) as required; up to 25% during active drilling campaigns

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, life, short-term and long-term disability
  • Flexible paid time off
  • Paid parental leave
  • Incentive stock options program
  • Bonus incentive program
  • 401(k) plan with employer match
