About this role

Martens & Associates is searching for geotechnical engineers and engineering geologists with local geotechnical experience to join its growing team. The firm delivers civil, geotechnical, environmental consultancy and drilling services on projects across Australia.

Staff perform a variety of field work and office-based tasks on road, rail, building, infrastructure and resource projects. Investigations range from routine assessments to complex assignments requiring soil and rock logging to AS1726:2017 standards.

The firm maintains an easy-going, flexible and culturally diverse environment that supports autonomous work, cross-discipline collaboration and high-quality outcomes. The Hornsby office is a short walk from the train station and local amenities, with working-from-home arrangements available.

Team members receive in-house and onsite training from senior staff with more than 30 years of experience, plus support for further industry education. Exposure to projects of varying complexity encourages continuous skill development and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in Geotechnical Engineering or Geology from an accredited Australian institution
  • Permanent full-time Australian work rights
  • Current Australian driver’s licence
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to work in varying, fast-paced and outdoor environments
  • Strong time management and organisational skills to meet project schedules, budgets and scopes
  • Ability to travel within greater NSW and occasional interstate work including overnight stays

Responsibilities

  • Conduct, lead and manage geotechnical investigations and assessments
  • Log soil and rock in accordance with AS1726:2017 and perform rock structure mapping
  • Supervise subcontractors and geotechnical fieldwork activities
  • Carry out manual handling tasks associated with geotechnical fieldwork
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports and deliverables within project schedules and budgets
  • Travel within greater NSW and occasional interstate locations, including overnight stays
