About this role
We’re looking for a talented Spatial/Geospatial Scientist to drive innovation in drone-based data pipelines and analysis. You’ll collaborate with leading e-research partners and access world-class computing resources. Develop cutting-edge solutions in remote sensing and spatial data.
Reporting to the Drone CRP Director, you’ll work closely with the Data Analytics Collaborative Research Platform. Ensure data and metadata from remote sensing types like multispectral, hyperspectral, and LiDAR are reliably parsed, indexed, stored, and extracted. Automate workflows for data ingestion, processing, and delivery with versioning and quality control.
Make all data assets Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR) following metadata schemas like ISO 19115. Develop analytical tools and machine learning routines for object detection, change detection, classification, and spectral indices such as NDVI and NDRE. Advise researchers and partners on effective methods for their projects.
Collaborate with Centre Director, drone pilots, and researchers to deliver tailored solutions. Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations on findings and procedures. Gain opportunities for research leadership, HDR supervision, and major funding applications.
Requirements
- Expertise in processing remote sensing data types including multispectral, hyperspectral, and LiDAR
- Proficiency in machine learning for geospatial tasks such as object detection, change detection, and classification
- Knowledge of spectral indices like NDVI and NDRE for remote sensing analysis
- Familiarity with FAIR data principles and metadata standards such as ISO 19115
- Experience automating data pipelines with versioning and quality control for spatial datasets
- Ability to develop custom analytical tools and routines for remote sensing data
- Skills in advising on geospatial analysis methods for research and industry projects
Responsibilities
- Work with the RCC to ensure data and metadata from multispectral, hyperspectral, and LiDAR are reliably parsed, indexed, stored, and extracted
- Automate data ingestion, processing, and delivery workflows including data versioning and quality control protocols
- Ensure all data assets are FAIR and follow comprehensive metadata schemas consistent with ISO 19115
- Develop analytical tools and machine learning techniques for object detection, change detection, classification, and spectral indices like NDVI and NDRE
- Advise and collaborate with researchers and external partners on effective analytical methods
- Work closely with Centre Director, drone pilots, and researchers to understand data requirements and deliver solutions
- Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations to communicate findings and procedures
- Provide support during field campaigns and travel to conferences and stakeholder meetings
Benefits
- 17% Superannuation
- Access to world-class computing resources
- Opportunities for research leadership and HDR supervision
- Involvement in major funding applications
- Collaboration with leading e-research partners
