The firm works on governmental, industrial, economic development, and commercial projects throughout the Southeast. We are seeking a Project Hydrogeologist/Scientist to deliver expertise in groundwater flow and transport modeling.

The position requires constructing numerical fate and transport models using MODFLOW, MT3DMS, and MODPATH to characterize groundwater flow patterns and constituent transport. Daily work includes evaluating complex geologic systems, assisting with monitoring program design, and preparing technical reports on site characterization and remediation. Field work and travel throughout the market area are required.

SynTerra provides assessment and remediation services for a diverse client base, primarily within the Southeastern United States. The role demands the ability to work independently on specific tasks while collaborating with clients and other environmental professionals. Both indoor office settings and outdoor environments in varying weather conditions are part of the position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in hydrogeology, geology, hydrology, environmental science, engineering, or related field; Master’s or Doctorate greatly preferred.
  • 2-4 years of experience with groundwater flow and transport modeling, environmental sampling, assessment, and remediation.
  • Software proficiency including GMS, GW Vistas, Surfer, Adobe Acrobat, ESRI ArcGIS Pro, Google Earth Pro, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in flow and transport modeling.
  • 40 hr. OSHA HAZWOPER trained a plus.
  • Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor settings ranging from climate-controlled offices to foul weather, heat, and rain.
  • Ability to sit or stand for several hours, climb inclines, and lift objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Construct numerical fate and transport models using MODFLOW/MT3DMS/MODPATH to characterize groundwater flow and constituent transport.
  • Evaluate complex geologic and hydrogeologic systems using various tools and methodologies.
  • Assist in the design and optimization of monitoring programs and engineered systems including landfills, drainage channels, and groundwater remedial systems.
  • Prepare and perform technical reviews of reports on groundwater modeling, site characterization, risk assessment, and remediation.
  • Prepare recurring and nonrecurring correspondence, reports, and documents from information obtained from coworkers, files, and other sources.
  • Use advanced functions of office suite automation including GIS, diagramming, word processing, and spreadsheet software to produce professional outputs.
  • Coordinate with leadership on business development, project management, and proposal writing.
  • Travel throughout the market area for field work as necessary.
