About this role
Under the limited supervision of a Geologist 3 or other supervisory official in the Department of Environmental Protection, takes the lead and conducts complex field and office work. This includes sub-surface investigations, soil compaction, mineral resources, and other related geological work. Compiles and analyzes complex geological data as required.
The proposed hourly employee works under the supervision of a Geologist 3 or higher-level title in Contaminated Site Remediation & Redevelopment. Focuses on Environmental Evaluation & Remediation Review and Groundwater Pollution Abatement. Responsible for reviewing and processing CEA proposals at 401 East State Street, Trenton, NJ.
Position supports the Groundwater Pollution Abatement section within a state agency environment. Open to the general public meeting specific experience and education requirements. Involves up to 900 hours per fiscal year, with 35 hours per week preferred.
Performs duties requiring professional judgment in geological analysis and data compilation. Contributes to remediation and redevelopment efforts through specialized field and office tasks. Opportunity for targeted geological work in environmental protection.
Requirements
- Six (6) years of professional experience in geology, geophysics, and/or hydrogeology
- OR Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in geology, or a bachelor's degree including or supplemented by thirty (30) semester-hour credits in geological subjects; and two (2) years of professional experience
- OR Possession of a master's degree in geology from an accredited college or university; and one (1) year of professional experience
- "Professional experience" refers to work that is creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive
- Requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the profession's principles, concepts, theories, and practices
- All U.S. degrees and transcripts must be from an accredited college or university
- All foreign degrees and transcripts must be evaluated for accreditation by a recognized evaluation service
- Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey if the operation of a vehicle is required
