About this role

ERM is seeking a GIS Specialist to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and deliver high-quality GIS and data solutions for complex environmental projects. This role involves planning, designing, and maintaining large, multiyear GIS initiatives while ensuring deliverables exceed client expectations.

Day-to-day tasks include producing technical maps in ArcGIS such as potentiometric maps, groundwater plume designs, geological cross-sections, and land use maps. The specialist will also validate topographic data, transform CAD and PDF layouts into GIS formats, and develop online maps using ArcGIS Online and Enterprise.

Working in a fast-paced, client-oriented environment, the specialist will deploy field data collection systems with Survey123, Field Maps, and Trimble GPS. They will also author Python and ModelBuilder scripts to automate workflows and drive continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Sciences, Geology, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in GIS or environmental consulting.
  • Proficiency in Esri’s ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Server.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Map and Civil 3D is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of geodatabase management, including domains, subtypes, and feature class operations.
  • Skilled in geoprocessing tools (joins, merges, topology, dissolves), symbology configuration, labeling, annotation, and definition queries.
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail, with a focus on professional presentation of maps and visualizations.
  • Self-motivated, curious, adaptable, and resourceful.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure GIS and data deliverables meet or exceed client expectations.
  • Plan, design, implement, and maintain large, complex, multiyear GIS projects.
  • Organize and manage project data, analysis, and mapping following company protocols and industry best practices.
  • Design and produce maps in ArcGIS for technical reports, including potentiometric maps, groundwater plume designs, geological cross-sections, and land use maps.
  • Validate topographic data from subcontractors and transform CAD, Google Earth, and PDF layouts into GIS formats.
  • Develop and publish online maps using ArcGIS Online and Enterprise, and deploy field data collection systems using Survey123, Field Maps, and Trimble GPS.
  • Author and edit geoprocessing scripts and tools using Python and ModelBuilder.
  • Promote continuous improvement through automation and innovation in GIS workflows.
