About this role
Parsons is looking for a Field Geophysicist Intern to join an industry-leading team collecting geophysical data to support MMRP investigations and remediation projects. The internship provides knowledge and experience in performing geophysical surveys using various types of equipment and sensors. Work closely with a Project Geophysicist, Site Geophysicist, and Geophysical Team Lead for mentorship throughout the summer.
Before field activities, complete a medical physical and review project work plans. In the field, conduct quality control tests and collect digital geophysical data and GPS data. Acquire data using UltraTEM, monitor daily quality control tests, document results, troubleshoot sensor issues, and run diagnostic tests as needed.
This role involves extensive travel to remote field sites, 100% of the time. Fieldwork includes physically demanding tasks and 10-hour days, typically 4 to 5 days per week, in adverse conditions like cold, hot, high wind, dust, and rough terrain. Carry up to 50 lbs of equipment.
The position progresses your college career and offers exposure to the MMRP industry for future decisions. Parsons' Federal Solutions team delivers services in defense, security, intelligence, infrastructure, and environmental areas. No security clearance required.
Requirements
- Enrolled in geophysics, geology, or related field curriculum and completed at least one year of studies
- Basic computer skills and knowledge of file transfer/sharing systems
- Obtain OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER online training course before starting (Parsons pays registration)
- Extensive travel to field sites required (100%)
- Perform physically demanding tasks and work 10-hour days in adverse field conditions
- Work in remote locations with cold, hot, high wind, dusty environments, and rough terrain
- Ability to carry up to 50 lbs
