About this role
We currently have a vacancy for a GIS Specialist fluent in English to offer services as an expert based in Brussels, Belgium. The work will be carried out on the company’s premises or on site at customer premises. The successful candidate will be integrated in the Development team closely cooperating with a major client’s IT team on site.
Your tasks include managing large spatially-focused soil biological datasets derived from DNA/RNA extractions. Produce maps and time-series reports based on DNA data from LUCAS Soil sampling locations. Perform data elaboration to develop spatial indicators combining genetic data with geographic datasets on soil, climate, land use, terrain, and pollution.
Conduct geospatial and geostatistical analysis including raster processing and integration of diverse datasets. Support development of policy scenarios assessing impacts of land and soil management trends on soil biodiversity through forecasts, time series, and spatial trends. Collaborate within an international, multilingual, and multicultural environment.

Requirements
- Master’s degree in IT or relevant discipline combined with minimum 13 years of relevant working experience in IT
- At least 3 years of experience with GIS software such as ArcGIS, GRASS-GIS, QGIS
- Experience with R programming
- Knowledge of underlying concepts and proven practical experience developing and managing soil biodiversity datasets derived through bioinformatics techniques
- Knowledge of geospatial analysis including processing of raster data and integration of diverse datasets
- Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python or equivalents and/or statistical programming environments such as R, MATLAB, SPSS or equivalents
- Knowledge of bioinformatics concepts
- Excellent command of the English language
