About this role

The Senior GIS Specialist maintains and updates system facility records, maps, sketches, and working designs in GIS and/or CAD software for pipeline facilities. Updates existing maps, computerized drawings, and databases to reflect additions, removals, and changes to land bases. Prepares maps, graphics, charts, and visual aids to facilitate communications across teams.

Establishes, organizes, and maintains detailed records and files using various computer programs. Maintains a library of maps and related databases, including computerized maps from various sources. Assists Technical Services and Operations in various projects as required.

Works primarily in an indoor environment with occasional outdoor field site visits. Performs activities like sitting, repetitive wrist movements, and shifting gaze from data to PC screen frequently. Occasionally bends, stoops, grasps, reaches, twists, turns, and lifts.

May assist with training, direction, and quality control of others in similar activities, and oversee project activities. Assists with the development of GIS applications, processes, and procedures. Supports ongoing improvements in mapping and facility record management.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in GIS, Computer Drafting or related field, and two years of related experience, or equivalent
  • Ability to communicate with internal and/or external customers to obtain and/or provide explanations and/or information on technical or complex concepts
  • Ability to perform algebraic, trigonometric, and geometric operations and/or moderately complex statistical and/or accounting methods
  • Knowledge of various software applications including computer drafting to create complex documents, reports, graphics, and maintain system facility maps
  • Experience updating maps and databases for pipeline facilities and land bases
  • Proficiency in preparing visual aids like maps, charts, and graphics for technical communications
  • Skills in maintaining GIS libraries and detailed records using computer programs
