About this role
AECOM is seeking an entry-level Environmental Scientist or Geologist to join our Grand Rapids, Michigan office. This role supports a variety of projects including data management, site investigations, and remediation activities.
Fieldwork involves collecting soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air, and soil vapor samples, along with geological logging and interpretation. Office duties include analyzing data and preparing investigation reports to ensure environmental compliance.
You will work as part of a project team alongside AECOM staff and subcontractors, requiring flexibility across diverse projects and a strong commitment to health and safety. Overnight travel may be required for field assignments.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or Geology (or demonstrated equivalency of experience/education).
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.
- Must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review as a condition of employment.
- U.S. Citizenship is required due to the nature of the work.
- Ability to understand and supervise advancement of soil borings and installation of monitoring wells (preferred).
- Ability to demonstrate a primary technical role in multiple site characterization, subsurface investigation, and remediation projects (preferred).
- Understanding of site conceptual models and ability to collect and evaluate environmental data (preferred).
Responsibilities
- Conduct environmental field work, including collecting soil, surface water, groundwater, and remediation system data; soil logging; and fluid level gauging.
- Oversee contractors performing field surveys, drilling, well installation, development operations, and utility clearance for intrusive operations.
- Participate in a health and safety team performing inspections, observations, and training.
- Prepare field documents, collect and process field data, and support data interpretation.
- Support office tasks including data entry, data analysis, report preparation, and maintaining a records archive system.
- Collect and record data, comparing results to relevant studies and state/federal regulations to ensure compliance.
- Travel to project locations, including driving and occasional overnight stays.
