About this role
Barr Engineering is seeking a geologist or geological engineer to join our Jefferson City office in a hybrid role. You will support the Assessment and Remediation business unit with challenging and progressive work on contaminated site investigation, evaluation, and remediation projects.
Assignments include environmental site assessments, on-site investigations of contaminated soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, and vapor, aquifer test performance and analysis, and construction observation. Fieldwork may involve observing drilling and monitoring well installation, classifying soil and bedrock samples, and collecting samples for field screening and lab analysis.
The ideal candidate is a clear and confident communicator who thrives in both collaborative and independent work environments. This role demands adaptability, organization, proactive problem-solving, a high attention to detail, and ownership of tasks in dynamic field and office conditions.

- OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required; safety training will be provided.
- Understands value of teamwork, quality, and integrity in delivering impactful environmental solutions.
Responsibilities
- Apply foundational geology and science principles to support site investigations, environmental sampling, and data collection.
- Assist in the analysis of environmental data and contribute to the development of remediation approaches.
- Help coordinate field activities and logistics, including contractor oversight and equipment preparation.
- Contribute to the evaluation of site conditions and identification of potential solutions to environmental challenges.
- Produce clear field notes, chain-of-custodies, client emails, data summaries, figures, and draft report sections.
- Provide concise status updates to project managers and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients to align technical work with project objectives.
