About this role

The On-Call Cultural GIS Specialist I supports cartographic needs for utility, transportation, telecommunications, and energy infrastructure projects. This remote role involves generating and incorporating geospatial information into components for cultural environmental review reports. Candidates must reside in the contiguous United States, ideally California, Oregon, or Washington.

Daily tasks include using geospatial software to create templated static reference maps for local, state, and federal environmental reports. Specialists process, interpret, and maintain vector data from various file formats, applying geoprocessing and query techniques. They update ArcGIS Online maps and handle pre- and post-field data to produce high-volume products under fast-paced deadlines.

This position reports to the GIS Supervisor within Eocene Environmental Group, part of the Wright Service Corp. family. Starting as on-call with variable time, the role offers opportunity to transition full-time. It requires compliance with laws, adherence to GIS protocols, and occasional travel. Regular attendance and effective communication across all employee levels are essential.

Requirements

  • BA/BS Degree or Technical Certificate in GIS and 2+ years of GIS work experience
  • Experience with Esri Enterprise and software suites
  • Understanding of standard cartographic and database management principles
  • Knowledge of geoprocessing tools and techniques
  • Capable of managing files for complex projects with or without enterprise-level tools
  • Ability to perform work duties remotely and efficiently
  • Capable of troubleshooting problems independently with moderate supervision
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical employees

Responsibilities

  • Create templated static reference maps using geospatial software for environmental reports
  • Process, interpret, and maintain geospatial vector data from various file formats
  • Apply geoprocessing and data query techniques to execute deliverables
  • Update and maintain ArcGIS Online maps
  • Process pre- and post-field data
  • Produce consistent and accurate high-volume products to meet fast-paced deadlines
  • Comply with federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations
