About this role

Canadian Natural is seeking a well-rounded Hydrogeologist with experience working in Alberta’s Oil Sands industry to help meet the needs of Thermal Oil Sands assets. In this full-time position in Calgary, Alberta, you will work with a senior asset Hydrogeologist and a multidisciplinary team. You will utilize strong technical, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills in the development and monitoring of groundwater source and disposal systems.

You will manage groundwater source and disposal system development, including source and disposal well drilling. Conduct regional aquifer pressure monitoring and direct groundwater flow numerical modelling studies. Map Mannville and Neogene/Quaternary aquifers while ensuring regulatory compliance.

Handle regulatory management, including Water Act licenses and meeting AER Directive and EPEA approval requirements. Coordinate consultants on regulatory monitoring and reporting programs. Engage in project management, data compilation, assessment, and reporting within a multidisciplinary team environment.

Requirements

  • M.Sc. in Hydrogeology or B.Sc. degree in Geology with specialization in Hydrogeology
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with APEGA within 12 months of hiring
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Oil Sands hydrogeological work, including field investigations and management of regional groundwater monitoring networks
  • Understanding of the regional Southern Athabasca Oil Sands Area groundwater flow systems
  • Mannville Mapping Experience
  • Aquifer pressure transient analysis experience
  • Project management ability and experience
  • Experience in groundwater flow modeling studies (FEFLOW and MODFLOW)
