
About this role
Contribute to the administration, operation, support, and development of Geographic Information System (GIS) applications, including web interfaces to share geospatial information. Join the Geomatics team in the Site and Civil Engineering (SCE) Department at CERN. Manage measuring, collecting, and geospatial data for infrastructure and equipment.
Collaborate with Future Collider Studies such as FCC and Muon Collider to ensure reliability and continuous improvement of dedicated GIS applications. Implement additional developments and enhancements to current web applications. Maintain and support existing GIS web applications for CERN and external users.
Perform computing tasks related to GIS infrastructure and databases as part of the Geomatics team. Handle geospatial data tied to CERN's infrastructure within the SCE Department. Focus on web-based tools for sharing information across users.
Build initial experience in GIS and web development through cutting-edge projects. Access on-the-job and formal training, including language classes. Benefit from possible contract extension up to 36 months in a dynamic research environment.
Requirements
- Initial experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), particularly the ESRI suite, and managing geospatial data related to infrastructure and equipment
- Initial experience in development of web-based GIS applications and their maintenance
- Initial experience in developing tools and scripts related to geospatial information and associated databases
- Strong foundations in GIS software (ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise), Python, and JavaScript/TypeScript
- Practical knowledge of web technologies including JavaScript, HTML5, CSS, web services (SOAP/REST), and Git
- Knowledge of and interest in geodesy
- Strong attention to detail, good organisational skills, ability to work autonomously, and proactive mindset
- Spoken and written English or French, with commitment to learn the basics of the other
