A Senior GIS Specialist plays a key role in the Offshore renewables business, providing bespoke geospatial services to large-scale offshore wind projects in the UK, Europe, and overseas. This position specifically supports ScottishPower Renewables’ offshore wind operations and maintenance projects. The role involves working within a global business spanning multiple countries.

Reporting to the Geospatial and information management lead, you will provide GIS drafting and cartographic services, including web GIS applications and dashboards for windfarms under construction. Responsibilities include translating datasets from various coordinate systems and maintaining enterprise GIS databases with project deliverables. You will also conduct GIS analyses to support the construction stage of offshore projects.

The position requires travel to various UK and overseas locations, coordinating with teams at different project sites. You will work independently on technical solutions while collaborating in team and client office environments. This global scope enhances exposure to diverse offshore wind operations.

Opportunities include developing novel geospatial methodologies with documentation and creating productivity tools for technical and non-technical users. You will mentor junior staff through guidance, advice, and support. Contribute to advancing geospatial data analysis for project completion and future renewable energy initiatives.

Requirements

Experience with ESRI enterprise server deployment, including publishing of feature and raster image services
Capacity to work independently providing technical solutions to engineering challenges using GIS
Good digital cartographic and map production skills, and experience quality assuring contractor and internal drawings
Ability to work in a team and in a client office environment
Proficiency in geospatial data management for offshore renewables projects
Knowledge of coordinate system transformations for offshore and onshore datasets
Skills in spatial analysis and processing for windfarm construction support

Responsibilities

Provide GIS drafting and cartographic services including web GIS applications and dashboards for offshore windfarms under construction
Perform geographical translation of third-party and project datasets from different global and local coordinate systems
Maintain and update GIS databases including enterprise GIS databases with project data deliverables and third-party data
Provide GIS analyses and data processing services to support the construction stage of offshore wind projects
Create and maintain project geospatial data and metadata
Develop novel methodologies for geospatial data analysis for project use with appropriate supporting documentation
Develop tools for a wide technical and non-technical user-base to enhance productivity
Provide guidance, advice, feedback, and support to junior members of staff through mentorship
