About this role
SynTerra is looking for a creative Entry Level Geologist/Hydrogeologist/Engineer/Environmental Scientist to provide expertise in environmental assessment and remediation. Candidates should have 0-3 years of experience and the ability to work independently on specific tasks while collaborating with clients and other environmental professionals.
This position involves preparing well-researched correspondence, reports, and technical documents from staff and file information. You will coordinate and work on specialized environmental projects, site assessments, compliance and monitoring programs, and regulatory approval for industrial facilities.
You will interpret data sets, construction plans, historical references, and site plans to develop documents that satisfy client requirements. The role requires periodic travel throughout the Southeastern US for field tasks including site investigations, drilling oversight, and soil and groundwater sample collection.
Based in the Greenville, SC or Cary, NC office, this role demands the ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying conditions. You will collaborate with colleagues and senior technical professionals to deliver high-quality work while adhering to Site Specific Health and Safety Plans.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, a related science discipline, or relevant engineering field is required.
- Master's degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or a related discipline is preferred.
- 0-3 years of experience in environmental assessment and remediation.
- Software proficiency desired including Adobe Acrobat, ESRI ArcGIS, Microsoft Office Suite, Python, R, and ProUCL.
- Must be able to work in a team environment.
- Completed 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training desirable but not required.
- Must be able to work in both indoor and outdoor settings in environments ranging from climate-controlled office space to adverse weather conditions, heat, and rain.
- Preferred additional skills: educational training in geological/investigative methodologies, proficiency in Python/JavaScript, familiarity with large language models, groundwater modeling, spatial data software (ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, Google Earth Engine), statistical evaluation, and database management/SQL.
Responsibilities

- Work collaboratively with colleagues and senior technical professionals to provide the highest degree of client responsiveness and quality deliverables.
- Conduct periodic travel throughout the Southeastern US for field tasks including site investigations, drilling oversight, soil and groundwater sample collection, and related work.
- Adhere to Site Specific Health and Safety Plans prepared for each project site.
