About this role

This position conducts field and office work pertaining to sub-surface investigations, soil compaction, mineral resources, and other related geological work under the close supervision of a Geologist 3 or other supervisory official. The role compiles and analyzes geological data and performs other related duties as required.

Day-to-day responsibilities include reviewing and processing Classification Exception Area/Well Restriction Area (CEA/WRA) proposals and providing ground water technical support to the Contaminated Site Remediation and Redevelopment (CSRR) permitting program. The position also issues Discharge to Ground Water approvals associated with Remedial Action Permits.

This geologist will review workplans, reports, correspondence, proposals, and studies pertaining to geology, hydrogeology, site remediation, and well injection. The work ensures scientific accuracy and compliance with CSRR regulations, policies, and procedures for Licensed Site Remediation Professional cases.

The position offers the opportunity to advise and make recommendations on technical and policy matters related to permit activities within a state environmental agency. This role is ideal for a geologist seeking to apply their expertise in groundwater protection and contaminated site remediation.

Requirements

  • Five years of professional experience in geology, geophysics, and/or hydrogeology
  • OR possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in geology, or a bachelor's degree including or supplemented by thirty (30) semester-hour credits in geological subjects, and one year of professional experience
  • OR possession of a Master's degree in geology from an accredited college or university
  • Possession of a driver's license valid in New Jersey if operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform duties
  • All foreign degrees must be evaluated for accreditation by a recognized evaluation service
