About this role
ERM is looking for a motivated, hands-on Contaminated Land & Remediation Consulting Associate to join our Site Investigation and Remediation (SIR) team in the UK. Working under the direction of program managers and partners, the successful candidate will work on interesting site investigation and remediation projects throughout the region.
This role involves both field and office work, including supervision of contractors during site investigations, regular fieldwork such as walkovers and soil/groundwater sampling, and office support like data analysis and reporting. The successful candidate must be willing to travel regularly as the role is largely based in the field or on client sites.
You will collaborate with ERM's technical experts to implement the latest investigation and remediation technologies, as well as more sustainable approaches. The team environment emphasizes safety, innovation, and practical problem-solving.
Training will be provided to develop skills for managing small to medium projects, including financial management. This is a great opportunity to build the required experience to obtain your professional registration.
Requirements
- An appetite for working outdoors and willingness to travel regularly and spend the majority of time away from home.
- Previous experience in supporting investigation, risk assessment, or environmental assessment work with fieldwork supervision in an Environmental or Water Consultancy is preferred.
- Experience working on active industrial sites with advanced safety cultures or in remote locations preferred.
- Preferably qualified to degree level in an environmental sciences, hydrogeology, geology, geochemistry or chemistry discipline.
- Consideration given to non-degree qualified candidates with relevant work experience.
- Full UK driving licence is an essential requirement.
- Ability to think outside the box and tackle problems with little available data.
- Ability to organise and prioritise workload to ensure timescales are met.
Responsibilities
- Supervise contractors and undertake routine monitoring during site investigations.
- Conduct regular field work including walkovers, logging soils, and soil and groundwater sampling.
- Perform office support tasks such as data analysis, manipulation, and reporting.
- Produce environmental desk studies, site investigation reports, and verification reports.
- Assist in fee proposal preparation for future work.
- Develop skills to manage small then medium-sized projects, including financial management.
