We seek a highly experienced Technical Director – Hydrogeology based in Western Australia, bringing specialist technical direction in numerical groundwater modelling. Lead projects across WA and APAC while developing the project pipeline through business development and client relationships.

Lead groundwater impact assessments and integrated modelling of surface and groundwater systems, including solute transport. Provide technical direction for high-quality modelling outcomes with multidisciplinary teams. Prepare proposals, deliver technical reporting, and engage clients through pursuit, tendering, and delivery phases.

Work within the Hydrogeology team alongside diverse hydrogeologists, engineers, and geoscientists. Provide services in groundwater resource management, impact assessment, environmental protection, infrastructure, energy, and resources. Collaborate with the global hydrogeology network on projects across Australia, Asia Pacific, and beyond.

Mentor junior modellers, share knowledge, and build team capability across GHD’s Groundwater Modelling Team. Enjoy flexible work practices focused on well-being, flexibility, and productivity. Contribute to leaving the world better through quality delivery and technical excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in hydrogeology, with at least 15 years of professional technical experience, including 10 years focused on numerical groundwater modelling
  • Demonstrated expertise in industry-recognized modelling techniques, numerical model development, and the use of advanced modelling software and programming tools (e.g., MODFLOW, FEFLOW, PEST utilities, Python, Fortran)
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to explain complex modelling processes to non-technical stakeholders
  • Proven ability to manage and lead complex projects, work independently as a technical lead, and collaborate within multi-disciplinary teams
  • Personal drive for excellence, commitment to mentoring others, and a flexible, proactive approach to challenges and deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Lead groundwater impact assessments and integrated modelling of surface and groundwater systems, including solute transport modelling
  • Provide technical direction and management for high-quality modelling project outcomes, collaborating with national and international multidisciplinary teams
  • Prepare, develop, and review proposals and bids for projects, and deliver technical reporting and data analytics
  • Engage with clients throughout pursuit, tendering, and delivery phases, ensuring project outcomes and client satisfaction
  • Mentor and train junior modellers, sharing knowledge, and building team capability across GHD’s Groundwater Modelling Team
  • Coordinate groundwater modelling projects and opportunities across WA and APAC
  • Develop project pipeline through business development, client relationships, and winning work strategies
