About this role

GZA is currently seeking an Entry-Level Geologist/Scientist to support our growing environmental consulting practice in Somerset, NJ. You will perform a mix of field and office duties on a fast-paced team of highly experienced professionals and subject matter experts. Field assignments vary from 1-day deployments to those lasting 3 weeks, generally in New Jersey or New York, returning home daily.

Between field assignments, work in a professional office setting preparing detailed and accurate field documentation, data analysis, reporting, and gearing up for the next deployment. Be self-motivated to work independently while collecting data in the field. Our success relies on this collaborative environment where you share ideas.

Mentored by seasoned professionals, you will be expected to be curious, responsive, and proactive. Interact professionally with colleagues, subcontractors, clients, and stakeholders, as people and relationships matter. Comfortable using both low and high-tech environmental field equipment, with training provided for instrumentation aptitude.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in geology, earth/environmental science, or related field required
  • Strong oral and written communication, problem solving, and organizational skills
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing
  • OSHA 40Hr HAZWOPER Certification (preferred)
  • Self-motivated to work independently in the field
  • Comfortable dealing and working with people professionally
  • Comfortable working with low and high-tech environmental field equipment
  • Flexible, responsive, and reliable

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of field work under supervision, including site assessments and collection of soil, water, air, and sediment samples
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot field equipment and instrumentation
  • Conduct site visits to observe and document conditions
  • Review various types of laboratory data
  • Conduct basic technical analyses and calculations associated with collected data
  • Write field memos, draft technical reports, and emails
  • Communicate proactively, effectively, and efficiently with team members
  • Prepare and follow site-specific health & safety plans
