About this role
Entarian is seeking an experienced GIS Specialist to support NOAA's National Geodetic Survey. NGS provides the framework for all positioning activities in the Nation through latitude, longitude, elevation, and shoreline information that impacts a wide range of activities.
The role focuses on the NGS Aeronautical Survey Program, working with NGS and FAA to understand strategic goals, regulations, specifications, and standards related to aeronautical surveys for U.S. airports.
Daily work includes reviewing third-party airport survey data for accuracy and completeness, processing field-collected data, cross-referencing against FAA databases and GIS datasets, and applying FAA Advisory Circular 150/5300-18B specifications using ArcGIS Pro and Google Earth Pro.
Work is performed on a hybrid schedule with approximately 50% telework permitted for candidates within reasonable commuting distance to Silver Spring, MD. The position offers the opportunity to become a recognized expert in aeronautical survey methodologies and GIS fields.
Requirements
- Bachelors of Science degree in Geography, GIS, Mathematics, Geodesy, related discipline, or equivalent.
- 6+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience using ESRI ArcMap Suite / ArcGIS Pro, Python and databases.
- Familiar with survey methodologies, techniques, and GIS fields preferred.
- Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work with sensitive or classified data.
- Must be a US Citizen or a Permanent Resident and be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge.
Responsibilities
- Review and validate third-party airport survey data for accuracy, completeness and adherence to FAA standards.
- Document changes to runways and ensure the accuracy of airfields' geoid models.
- Process field collected data and determine whether airfields meet necessary safety standards.
- Cross-reference field-collected survey data against FAA databases, GIS datasets, and legacy records to identify discrepancies.
- Interpret and apply FAA Advisory Circular 150/5300-18B specifications to determine the acceptability of submitted airport surveys.
- Perform data reviews using GIS tools such as ArcGIS Pro and Google Earth Pro.
- Support database improvements or modernization efforts related to airport survey data management.
- Collaborate with team members to improve data review workflows and processes.
