The Data Lab Unit establishes a leading hub for open-source data, code, and visualizations, fostering data democratization among NGOs and partners. It addresses challenges like unsustainable data strategies and turnover for long-term sustainability of WRI Indonesia's platforms. This transforms outputs into tools for climate resilience, social equity, and nature conservation.
The Geospatial Data Scientist delivers geospatial analytics, processes remotely sensed data, and provides spatial modeling aligned with priorities. Responsibilities include collecting, cleaning, processing, and managing geospatial datasets like GIS layers and imagery. The role supports flagship platforms, programmatic initiatives, and designs pipelines for analysis-ready data.
Reporting to the Senior Lead for Data Engineering and Innovation, the role collaborates with the Data Lab Indonesia team and GIS Research Analysts across programs. It ensures high-quality data standards, reproducibility, and documentation while providing visualizations and services to other teams. Based in Jakarta with office-flex arrangement and travel as assigned.
Contribute to GeoAI Lab expansion by co-defining problems and developing innovative tools for geospatial insight. Explore technologies like Google Earth Engine, cloud-based computing, and AI/GeoAI techniques. Support evidence-based decisions and policy-relevant action across thematic areas.
Requirements
- Experience in geospatial analytics and processing remotely sensed data
- Proficiency in spatial modeling and intelligence
- Skills in GIS data management, cleaning, and visualization
- Knowledge of machine learning and AI for geospatial applications
- Familiarity with Google Earth Engine and cloud-based geospatial computing
- Ability to design pipelines for analysis-ready spatial data
- Experience creating spatial dashboards, story maps, and analytics products
- Understanding of reproducible geospatial workflows and documentation
Responsibilities
- Conduct geospatial analysis and spatial intelligence research to support evidence-based decision-making
- Contribute to research projects related to GeoAI and other relevant topics
- Design and implement geospatial models and algorithms for predictive analytics
- Apply machine learning and AI techniques for geospatial analysis
- Collaborate to expand the GeoAI Lab, developing new tools, methods, and techniques
- Explore new geospatial technologies like Google Earth Engine and cloud-based computing
- Process remotely sensed data and manage GIS layers and imagery
- Develop and maintain centralized repository for geospatial datasets
