About this role

The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Ottawa invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in sedimentary geology and Earth’s surface evolution. Candidates should have an outstanding track record in innovative research on modern or ancient sedimentary systems, with interests in sedimentary processes, basin dynamics, paleoclimatology, or georesources. Arctic-focused research and field geology foundation are encouraged; a $2M Cenovus endowment supports graduate students. Start date is July 1, 2025.

Responsibilities include teaching sedimentary geology with a strong field component across undergraduate and graduate levels. Supervise BSc, MSc, and PhD students while developing an externally-funded research program. Establish connections with industry and government agencies, and contribute to departmental and faculty administration.

Requirements

  • PhD in Earth Sciences, Geology, or Environmental Sciences
  • Outstanding track record for innovative research in modern or ancient sedimentary systems
  • Research interests in sedimentary processes, basin dynamics, paleoclimatology, or georesources
  • Research focus in the Arctic and solid foundation in field geology encouraged
  • Postdoctoral experience and excellent didactic skills are an asset
  • Passive knowledge of French at time of tenure; preference for teaching in French at hiring
