About this role

OceanaGold's Waihi Operation is an underground gold mine on New Zealand's North Island. A recent consent for the Waihi North Project extends mine life long-term, supporting 400 staff and contractors. The Underground Project Geologist oversees drilling and ore control data collection per company and industry best practices.

Utilise data to update near mine geological models and complete grade control and resource estimates at production levels and forecast dates. Design and manage grade control drilling programmes, liaising with the Resource Development team. Ensure data integrity, manage QAQC processes, and assist in regular reports.

Requirements

  • Degree in geology; postgraduate qualification highly regarded
  • Full and current Driver Licence; ability to drive manual vehicles preferred
  • Experience maintaining near mine geological models
  • Knowledge of grade control drilling programme design and management
  • Proficiency in completing grade control and resource estimates
  • Familiarity with QAQC processes in geological data
  • Underground mining ore control experience
  • Site reconciliation and technical reporting skills

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a geological model of near mine resources
  • Design and manage grade control drilling programmes and liaise with Resource Development team
  • Complete grade control and resource estimates within specified time frames
  • Ensure data integrity and management meets high standards and ore control objectives
  • Manage QAQC processes and protocols and assist ore control geologists with reports
  • Participate in site reconciliation processes and reporting
  • Provide cover for ore control geologists and Senior Geologist as required
  • Identify, implement and manage projects within the mine geology department
