About this role

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) seeks a Remedial Action Hydrogeologist to protect and improve Oregon's environmental quality. This role focuses on remediating contaminated sites and safeguarding groundwater resources across the state.

Day-to-day responsibilities include overseeing remedial actions at contaminated sites, conducting hydrogeologic assessments, and monitoring groundwater quality. You will design and implement remediation systems, analyze data, and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

You will join a dynamic and supportive team of mission-focused individuals tasked with maintaining, restoring, and enhancing the quality of Oregon’s air, land, and water. DEQ is the primary regulatory agency for environmental protection in Oregon, offering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in geology, hydrogeology, earth science, or a closely related field
  • Knowledge of hydrogeologic principles, groundwater flow, and contaminant transport
  • Experience with site investigation and remediation of contaminated soil and groundwater
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations governing cleanup activities
  • Ability to analyze complex hydrogeologic data and prepare clear technical reports
  • Professional Geologist registration or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe

Responsibilities

  • Oversee remedial actions at contaminated sites to protect groundwater and the environment
  • Conduct hydrogeologic assessments including site investigations and groundwater monitoring
  • Design and implement remediation systems such as pump-and-treat or in-situ treatment
  • Analyze hydrogeologic data and prepare technical reports and regulatory documents
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal environmental regulations (e.g., RCRA, CERCLA)
  • Collaborate with stakeholders including regulators, consultants, and the public on remediation projects
  • Support the agency's mission to preserve, enhance, and protect Oregon's natural resources
