About this role
Assala Gabon is a dynamic Oil and Gas Exploration and Production company committed to sustainable development of its assets. It values a collaborative approach, promotes diversity, and prioritizes safety and integrity. The Senior Geologist leads subsurface volumetric evaluations across the asset portfolio and designs well trajectories for new drilling programs.
This role ensures alignment with geological targets while respecting operational and drilling constraints. The position involves close technical collaboration with the Operations Geology team on drilling planning, real-time decision-making, and execution activities. Daily work includes building and maintaining Petrel static models for mature fields.
The Senior Geologist embeds within integrated asset development teams, reporting to the team leader, and contributes across other assets as needed. Key activities encompass analyzing large volumes of geological data to identify sweet spots and optimizing field development. Collaboration with Petrophysics, Reservoir Engineering, and Production Engineering identifies drilling candidates.
Compliance with HSSE standards promotes a strong safety culture. The role critically challenges existing models and interpretations to improve subsurface understanding. Proactive engagement drives continuous improvement and performance in a responsible, integrity-focused environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geology or related discipline (Master’s preferred)
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience as a Development Geologist
- Strong hands-on experience and sedimentological interpretation
- Previous exposure to West Africa and/or pre-salt reservoirs is a strong advantage
- Proficiency in industry-standard geological and petrophysical software, including Interactive Petrophysics (IP) and Techlog
- Advanced Petrel user with proven experience in mature field redevelopment and modelling
- Strong ability to analyse and integrate large volumes of complex geological and dynamic reservoir data to identify sweet spots
- Solid expertise in well log interpretation and determination of key petrophysical parameters
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain Petrel static models for mature fields with high well density, including robust petrophysical property distribution modelling
- Actively participate in well-by-well and project reviews to support data-driven decision-making
- Analyse large volumes of geological data to identify sweet spots and optimise field development opportunities
- Identify, in collaboration with Petrophysics, Reservoir Engineering, and Production Engineering, mature candidates for drilling and well optimisation
- Ensure full compliance with company HSSE standards and promote a strong safety culture
- Critically challenge existing models, well correlations, and multidisciplinary interpretations to improve subsurface understanding
- Engage proactively with the team to drive continuous improvement and overall performance
- Operate responsibly, with a strong commitment to safety, integrity, and operational excellence
Benefits
