At WSP, join the high-performing Geotechnical & Tunnels team as a Principal Engineering Geophysicist. Contribute to major infrastructure, tunnelling, resources, energy and environmental projects, with the role based in Sydney, Melbourne, or Brisbane.

Lead data acquisition, analysis and interpretation for airborne, ground, marine and borehole geophysical surveys. Provide high-level geophysical advice on complex ground engineering challenges to internal teams and clients. Develop robust geophysical methodologies and ensure quality technical outputs across multiple projects.

Scope, manage and deliver projects of varying complexity, including contract negotiation and commercial oversight. Guide clients through complex technical issues, regulatory processes and best-practice geophysical solutions. Drive strong safety leadership and uphold all HSE responsibilities within a collaborative team environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geophysics (Master’s or PhD highly regarded)
  • 15+ years’ experience delivering geophysical services across major projects
  • Proficiency with industry geophysical software (e.g., Rayfract, Refract, SurfSeis, SeisImager, ReflexW 2D/3D, GeoTom, SonarWiz, Res2DInv, WellCAD)
  • Highly capable in managing large-scale, multi-disciplinary projects with strong commercial awareness
  • Proven ability to produce, review and sign off complex technical reports
  • Strong client relationship skills and a track record of delivering outstanding client outcomes
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring, coaching, and building technical capability in teams
  • Valid unrestricted driver’s licence for use in Australia

  • Contributing expert technical input to proposals and strategic pursuits
  • Driving strong safety leadership and upholding all HSE responsibilities
  • Mentoring and coaching geophysicists, building team capability and promoting a culture of technical excellence
