About this role

The GIS Specialist (Gas) at We Energies provides technical and clerical support for Gas Operations by creating and maintaining maps of underground gas distribution facilities. The role covers all We Energies gas service areas and focuses on system integrity.

Daily work includes receiving and processing construction work orders along with maintenance and service orders. Specialists analyze maps for accuracy to support public safety and administer archives of legally required documents.

Additional tasks involve accounting for all components, interpreting forms and drawings to detect errors, and relaying corrections to technicians. The position requires taking calls from the field and applying knowledge of gas distribution systems, GPS, and data entry.

This union-represented role operates across multiple Wisconsin locations and may involve compliance with pipeline safety regulations and critical infrastructure security standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of GIS or CAD work experience in the past five years
  • One year of GIS or CAD work experience within the past five years plus four completed courses in GIS technology from an accredited post-secondary vocational school or college
  • Certificate in GIS Technology or equivalent coursework (six courses in GIS technology) from an accredited post-secondary vocational school or college, earned/completed within the past five years
  • Comply with DOT Part 199 Pipeline drug and alcohol testing requirements for positions in some locations
  • Satisfy all company and NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection Standard 004 security requirements, including a background investigation, for unescorted access to certain critical cyber assets

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain maps showing underground gas distribution facilities
  • Analyze maps for accuracy to ensure public safety and system integrity
  • Administer archive for legally required documents
  • Receive, analyze, and process construction work orders, maintenance/repair orders, and service/meter maintenance orders
  • Account for all components using working knowledge of gas distribution systems, GPS, and data entry
  • Interpret applicable forms and drawings to detect errors and relay information to technicians for resolution
  • Take calls from the field
