
About this role
The GIS Specialist I supports Celerity's project team by providing geospatial and data management expertise to client projects. Celerity is an agile risk optimization company that empowers public utility organizations by converting complex data into clear, actionable intelligence.
This role involves reviewing engineering documents, drawings, and specifications to identify key information for analysis. The specialist verifies data on underground and overhead electric system structures, including components, configurations, and supporting documentation of current asset conditions.
The GIS Specialist works closely with engineers and project managers to ensure accurate documentation of utility assets. They perform quality control checks, provide mark-ups and redlines on engineering documents, and produce project reports, maps, and updates to support client and internal teams.
The position requires acute listening, proactive thinking, and relentless grit to solve complex energy challenges. It offers the chance to develop expertise in utility asset documentation and spatial analysis while contributing to critical infrastructure projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Engineering, or a related discipline; OR a GIS certificate plus relevant experience.
- At least 1 year of work experience (GIS experience preferred but not required).
- Demonstrated skill with Esri ArcGIS (ArcGIS Desktop 10.x/ArcGIS Pro) to develop, edit, and maintain data from engineering as-built drawings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access).
- Understanding of geographic data types, including land base, imagery, and utility infrastructure.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to complete complex assignments accurately.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills; professional demeanor.
Responsibilities
- Review engineering documents, drawings, and specifications to identify key information for analysis.
- Verify data on underground and overhead electric system structures, including components, configurations, and supporting documentation.
- Perform searches and data validation using client platforms such as GIS, SAP, and document repositories.
- Conduct GIS functions including creating, modifying, and updating records, maps, and diagrams; querying geodatabases; and extracting data for analysis.
- Perform quality control and review checks for asset inventories, engineering drawings, and related records.
- Provide mark-ups and redlines on engineering documents in accordance with client and project specifications.
- Produce project reports, maps, and updates as needed to support client and internal teams.
