APTIM Environmental & Infrastructure, Inc. is seeking an Environmental Geologist/Scientist to join their team in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This full-time role focuses on the development and implementation of site investigations and remedial actions, including the design and monitoring of groundwater, surface water, and soil gas systems.
Day-to-day responsibilities involve collecting environmental samples from various media, calibrating field instruments, and applying technical skills to complete assigned tasks. The role also includes installing and operating remediation equipment, supervising field tasks, and assisting with project management duties.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively in a team environment, communicating technical concepts to project team members, clients, and regulators. A strong safety-first work ethic is essential, along with the ability to adapt to changing field conditions and manage time to meet deadlines.
This position offers the opportunity to lead field activities and contribute to meaningful environmental projects. Occasional travel to other project sites in the geographic area may be required, providing variety and professional growth.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience conducting field investigations and supervising contractors.
- 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training with a current 8-hour refresher certificate.
- Ability to wear proper PPE for hazardous waste sites and perform physical work including lifting.
- Ability to plan, organize, schedule, and execute sampling and drilling activities.
- Must be able to work in the field in all types of weather and field conditions.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Core competency in Microsoft Office Products, including Word.
Responsibilities
- Collect environmental samples from groundwater, surface water, soil, and vapor in the field.
- Calibrate, maintain, and utilize field monitoring and measuring instruments.
- Apply technical skills to complete assigned tasks and manage own time to meet deadlines.
- Analyze and prepare raw data for engineering/scientific reports, plans, permits, and cost-estimates.
- Install, operate, and maintain remediation equipment including pumps and process equipment, and supervise field tasks like well installation and abandonment.
- Communicate technical concepts and evaluation results during work team meetings, ensuring conformance to standards and policies.
- Assist project manager with project management responsibilities and planning of drilling and sampling activities.
- Conduct field inspections, evaluate site conditions during sampling, and document results.
