ENSCO, Inc.

Chantilly, US · Full-time · $108,826 – $200,138

About this role

ENSCO is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Geophysicist to join our team, supporting projects related to geophysical data collection, analysis, and modeling. This role focuses on applications in underground facility characterization, Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) threat analysis, and other national security initiatives.

Day-to-day responsibilities include leading field surveys using seismic reflection, refraction, ground-penetrating radar (GPR), electromagnetic surveys, and passive seismic methods. You will operate and maintain advanced geophysical equipment for data acquisition in complex environments, and develop machine learning algorithms to improve detection and classification of subsurface features.

You will join a team of dedicated professionals passionate about solving complex challenges and delivering innovative solutions to the Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community (IC) missions. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams—including software developers, engineers, and data scientists—is central to developing integrated solutions for critical national security objectives.

At ENSCO, you will contribute to impactful projects that directly support national security and scientific advancement. This role offers the opportunity to provide technical oversight for integrating geophysical data into broader mission objectives and to support interagency and international collaboration on geophysical research and assessments.

Requirements

  • BS degree in a physical science or related discipline (e.g., Geophysics, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science) or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in data acquisition and test development.
  • Advanced skills in digital signal processing, data processing, geophysical modeling, and interpretation.
  • Hands-on experience in algorithm development and machine learning applications for geophysical data.
  • Experience working with multiple sensor types and techniques including seismic, acoustic, acceleration, electromagnetic, and ground-penetrating radar (GPR) sensors.
  • Experience analyzing large, multimodal datasets from a variety of sensors.
  • Proficiency in scientific programming languages.

Responsibilities

  • Lead field surveys using techniques such as seismic reflection, refraction, ground-penetrating radar (GPR), electromagnetic surveys, and passive seismic methods.
  • Operate and maintain advanced geophysical equipment for data acquisition in complex environments.
  • Develop and implement machine learning algorithms to improve detection and classification of subsurface features and materials.
  • Apply advanced computational techniques to analyze seismic, acoustic, and electromagnetic sensor data.
  • Perform in-depth analysis of geophysical data using physics-based models, inversion theory, and 3D visualization tools.
  • Model subsurface processes to identify vulnerabilities in WMD facilities and underground infrastructure.
  • Design test plans and execute validation processes for geophysical models and algorithms.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, presentations, and visualizations for stakeholders, including government and military clients.

Benefits

  • Contribute to impactful projects that directly support national security and scientific advancement.
  • Join a team of dedicated professionals passionate about solving complex challenges.
  • Opportunity to provide technical oversight and leadership on critical DoD and IC missions.
