The Principal Geologist, Geometallurgy reports to the Group Manager, Mine Geology and Mineral Resources. It provides leadership and expertise in geometallurgy to support Mineral Resource estimates across global operations.
The role focuses on building strong relationships with site teams and influencing stakeholders to enhance value creation in processing and mining. Work involves planning, leading, and managing geometallurgical programs, including drilling, sampling, and testing. It ensures integrated geometallurgical information for resource estimates, ore control, and operations.
As a key member of the Group Mining Engineering senior management team, the position mentors site-based teams to maintain high technical standards. It oversees domaining, geological modelling, grade estimation, and compliance with CIM definitions and NI 43-101. Most work is on-site to develop geometallurgical functions for mining and processing.

Requirements
- Tertiary degree in geoscience
- Membership of a Recognized Professional Organisation (ROPO) as per NI43-101
- Recognised certificate/qualification or training in Geostatistics
- Recognised certificate/qualification in Geometallurgy (advantage)
- Minimum of 10 years relevant experience, including 5+ years in a senior geometallurgy/geology role
- Copper and nickel base metal geology preferable
- Open-pit production exposure
- Geometallurgical domaining and ore performance
Responsibilities
- Uphold and promote a strong THINK safety culture
- Plan, lead and manage geometallurgical work, including related work of others
- Mentor and support site-based teams, ensuring high technical standards
- Oversee geometallurgical domaining, geological modelling, met variables/grade estimation, resource classification, and inputs for public disclosure per CIM and NI 43-101
- Support near mine geometallurgical and Mineral Resource development, including drilling programs, geological mapping, sampling and testing
- Provide relevant and timely geometallurgical block model information for planning, blasting, mining and processing
- Ensure alignment between Ore Control and Resource estimates, particularly for geometallurgical data
- Identify feasible metal opportunities and assist in their development
