About this role

Under limited supervision of a Geologist 3, Environmental Protection, or other supervisory official, performs professional work relating to collection and analysis of geological, hydrogeological, or geophysical data. Focuses on environmental problems including groundwater resources, geological hazards, pollution, and subsurface migration of pollutants. Provides technical expertise, instruction, assistance, and consultation.

Provides geologic and hydrogeologic support for CSRR on more technically complex sites. Issues Discharge to Ground Water Permits and establishes Classification Exception Areas. Reviews ground water issues related to Unregulated Heating Oil Tank (UHOT) cases.

Works with Bureau of Field Operations, publicly funded, and direct oversight cases. Represents BGWPA on technical guidance document committees. Reviews workplans, reports, correspondence, proposals, and studies pertaining to geology and hydrogeology.

Ensures scientific accuracy and compliance with CSRR regulations, policies, and procedures for LSRP, publicly funded, and case management. Advises and makes recommendations on policy matters. Advanced understanding of geology and hydrogeology is critical.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in geology, natural science, or engineering
  • Thirty-six semester hour credits in geology, hydrogeology, geohydrology, and/or geophysics
  • Nine additional semester hour credits in hydrogeology, geophysics, chemistry, computer science/modeling
  • Advanced understanding of geology and hydrogeology
  • Permanent employee in the Division of Environmental Evaluation & Remediation Review
  • Experience reviewing workplans, reports, and studies pertaining to geology and hydrogeology
  • Knowledge of site remediation, well injection, and CSRR regulations
  • Ability to advise on policy matters
