About this role

We are looking for a Numerical Scientist (Geophysical Imaging Technology) passionate about engaging with disciplines to resolve complex problems for bp’s hydrocarbon and low carbon energy businesses. The Imaging team in bp’s Oil and Gas Technology organization supports Production and Operations by inventing ideas, building products, and providing expertise. Tackle cutting-edge challenges solving inverse problems, performing seismic wave simulations, signal processing, stochastic algorithms, and estimating uncertainties. Process big data in static and streaming senses.

Work closely with the Center of High-Performance Computing (CHPC), home to on-prem facilities and computational scientists. Communicate complex information to business units and build future visions. Visualize and creatively present ideas to drive impact.

Quickly ramp up on existing technology and frameworks. Find opportunities for groundbreaking business impact through code and collaboration. Thrive in an environment with vast data, powerful computers, and challenging problems.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computational Sciences, Statistics, Geophysics or other numerical disciplines
  • Demonstrated experience out of university (3+ years)
  • Hands-on experience developing code in Python, C, C++, CUDA, FORTRAN
  • Familiarity with code management systems such as Git
  • Experience with geophysical imaging, inverse problems, optimization theory
  • Experience with signal processing and statistics
