About this role

NV5 seeks a GIS Developer/Artificial Intelligence Programmer Analyst with expertise in AI tools to support its federal government client at the Federal Center in Lakewood, Colorado. Provide production of a Small Language Model and documentation support. Work from home is considered with occasional on-site visits.

Support the client’s Resource Uses, Decisions, and Description (RUDD) Program using internal BLM AI. Create a Small Language Model to process multiple Land Use Planning documents and identify decisions. Develop a “Current Land Use Plans Decisions” product aligned with the RUDD template.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, or related field
  • Minimum of two (2) years of application development experience
  • Experience using AI and Small Language Models
  • Experience with programming/scripting languages such as R, Python, VBA, VB.Net
  • Experience managing and presenting metadata using CSS, ESRI ArcMap Metadata Editor, ESRI Arc Pro BLM Metadata Tool, XML, HTML, NotePad++, PDF, R, XML Notepad
  • Experience with metadata standards such as FGDC CSDGM, ISO 19115, Exif
  • Experience with metadata methods including inspection, automating quality checks, transforming, publishing
  • Experience with mobile data collection and management especially offline/disconnected workflows

Responsibilities

  • Support client’s Resource Uses, Decisions, and Description (RUDD) Program using internal BLM AI
  • Create Small Language Model to process multiple Land Use Planning documents
  • Identify land use plan decisions and create “Current Land Use Plans Decisions” product aligned with RUDD template
  • Provide metadata, reports, data, code, scripts, system documentation as requested
  • Manage and present metadata using CSS, ESRI ArcMap Metadata Editor, ESRI Arc Pro BLM Metadata Tool, XML, HTML, R, NotePad++, PDF, XML Notepad
  • Develop scripts and tools in R, Python, VBA, VB.Net for data and metadata management
  • Handle mobile data collection and management applications involving offline workflows
