About this role

WSP is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and delivery-oriented candidate with practical experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The Assistant Consultant - GIS Developer will assist with data management and mapping activities related to contaminated lands, environmental planning, ecology, environmental impact assessment, archaeology, heritage, indigenous relations, and other investigations. All deliverables shall comply with WSP Canada standards, procedures, provincial regulations, standards, and guidelines.

Perform GIS mapping, database development, and qualitative/quantitative analysis as a member of a national team across fields like archaeology, geotechnical engineering, mining, ecology, environmental science, planning, permitting, and asset management. Customize GIS workflow and software programs for data collection, engineering, and environmental applications. Compile, manipulate, and refine geographic data from field collection, satellite/aerial imagery, public domain data, and existing maps.

Design, develop, and maintain web applications deployed in ArcGIS Online using Experience Builder, Hub, and Story Maps. Design field data collection solutions using Survey123, Field Maps, and Quick Capture. Provide technical 2D maps, apps, dashboards, and reports supporting proposals, projects, and internal initiatives, collaborating with colleagues across multiple geographies.

Produce detailed, high-quality cartographic products and accompanying reports in accordance with technical guidelines and client needs. Perform regular quality control checks of spatial and non-spatial datasets to ensure data integrity. Document procedures, workflows, and development activities while exercising responsible and ethical decision-making per WSP’s Code of Conduct.

Requirements

  • Degree in GIS, Geography, Software Engineering, Environmental Science, or similar related field
  • 3 to 4 years of relevant post-education experience with GIS and Esri products including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS 10.X, ArcGIS Online/Portal/WebApps, and basic GIS and CAD data formats
  • Understanding of coordinate transformations, projections, datums, precisions, accuracy, and their impacts on deliverable quality
  • Demonstrated experience with Esri’s web, SaaS, and mobile solutions such as ArcGIS Online, Experience Builder, Web Apps, Survey123, Field Maps, ArcGIS StoryMaps
  • Experience with ArcMap, Erdas, ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, PyCharm, Jupyter Notebook, Visual Studio Code, GEE, ArcPy, Rasterio, GeoPandas, Fiona, Folium, Shapely, OpenCV, SciPy, scikit-learn, PyQGIS
  • Experience with PostgreSQL/PostGIS
