About this role

Provide advanced GIS expertise in spatial analysis, data modeling, and database design to support project objectives. Establish workflows and protocols while maintaining GIS data quality and integrity.

Day-to-day tasks include monitoring GIS data entry and coordinating updates, developing maps using cartographic principles, and serving as primary technical and functional support for GIS users. You will also support web-based GIS applications and resolve software issues.

Work collaboratively with technical staff to troubleshoot software problems and train employees on data entry and GIS software use. The role involves leading innovation and process improvements within the GIS environment while ensuring effective integration with other corporate systems.

This position is posted at multiple grade levels offering opportunities for advancement, from GIS Specialist to GIS Specialist Senior. You will also coordinate GPS data integration and assist in developing GIS standards and workflows.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Computer Science, Geography, Civil Engineering, Drafting, or related field; or Associate’s degree plus 2 years of relevant experience; or High School diploma plus 4 years of relevant experience
5 years of GIS-related work experience for GIS Specialist; 7 years for GIS Specialist Senior
Strong GIS foundation knowledge and problem-solving ability
Thorough understanding of data management principles including database design and metadata creation
Ability to establish cartographic designs and provide quality control oversight
Experience with web-based mapping technologies such as HTML and JavaScript
Proficiency in database development concepts such as Oracle or SQL Server
Valid state driver’s license

Responsibilities

Maintain GIS data consistency, accuracy, and integrity
Develop, assemble, edit, and revise maps and map products using cartographic principles
Provide software maintenance including upgrades, patches, and database model changes
Serve as primary support for GIS users, both technically and functionally
Support web-based GIS applications and resolve software issues
Train employees on data entry, data manipulation, data extraction, and GIS software use
Lead innovation and process improvements within the GIS environment
Coordinate GPS data integration with GIS and support project-level quality control oversight
